Evo-Stik Wood Adhesive Exterior Wood Glue is an extra-strong, fast-setting and weatherproof adhesive for joining timber in both indoor and outdoor applications. Its proven Resin ‘W’ formulation creates a bond that is stronger than the wood itself when the product is correctly applied to suitably prepared surfaces.

Weatherproof D3 Wood Adhesive
Evo-Stik Exterior Wood Glue complies with EN 204 Type D3. This classification makes it suitable for interior applications exposed to frequent short-term water contact or high humidity and for exterior woodwork that is protected from continuous weather exposure.
Its weather-resistant formulation makes it an excellent choice for external doors and window frames, garden furniture, outdoor timber features and other suitable woodworking applications. However, D3 classification does not mean that the adhesive is intended for permanent water immersion or completely unprotected structural joints exposed continuously to severe weather.
For exterior projects, the completed timber assembly should still be appropriately designed, maintained and protected with a suitable paint, stain, varnish or wood treatment where required. Correct detailing should prevent water from remaining trapped around the joint.

The product is intended for general, non-structural timber bonding. It should not be used as the only fixing in load-bearing or safety-critical applications unless its suitability has been confirmed by a qualified professional or the manufacturer.
Fast-Setting Performance
Evo-Stik Exterior Wood Glue has a typical open assembly time of approximately five to ten minutes. The precise working time will depend on temperature, humidity, timber porosity and the moisture content of the wood. The components should be assembled while the adhesive remains wet.
After assembly, the joint must be held under light, even pressure using clamps, a vice, jig or suitable dead load. At approximately 20°C and 55% relative humidity, some timber joints may need to remain clamped for just over one hour. Colder conditions can extend the required time considerably; for example, beech bonded at around 7°C may require at least 12 hours of clamping.
The adhesive reaches full cure within approximately 24 hours at 20°C. Do not place the joint under significant load, expose it to moisture or begin sanding and machining until the adhesive has cured sufficiently.
Surface and Joint Preparation
Both surfaces must be clean, dry, sound and free from dust, oil, grease, polish, paint and loose material. Previously treated timber may need to be sanded back to expose clean, absorbent wood. Remove all sanding dust before applying the adhesive.
The surfaces should be smooth and shaped to fit closely together. Evo-Stik Exterior Wood Glue is not intended to bridge large gaps. For dowelled and mortise-and-tenon joints, the clearance should be less than approximately 0.25mm.
Complete a dry assembly before applying the adhesive. This allows the joint alignment, clamp positions and assembly sequence to be checked while adjustments can still be made.
How to Apply Evo-Stik Exterior Wood Glue
- Make sure the wood is clean, dry and ready for bonding.
- Check that the surfaces fit closely and complete a dry assembly.
- Prepare all required clamps, jigs or weights before applying the glue.
- Apply a thin and even film of adhesive to one bonding surface.
- For maximum strength or highly absorbent timber, coat both surfaces.
- When bonding a dowel or tenon, apply adhesive inside the hole or mortise.
- Assemble the components while the adhesive film remains wet.
- Align the parts and apply firm, even clamping pressure.
- Remove unwanted wet adhesive carefully with a damp cloth.
- Keep the assembly clamped for the appropriate period.
- Allow up to 24 hours for a full cure at approximately 20°C.
Use sufficient pressure to bring the components into close contact without forcing all of the adhesive out of the joint. A small, continuous amount of squeeze-out generally indicates adequate coverage.
Cleaning Excess Adhesive
Wet adhesive can be removed using a clean, damp cloth. Care should be taken not to spread a thin film of glue across nearby timber, particularly if the surface will later be stained or varnished. Even though the adhesive dries clear, residue may prevent the decorative treatment from penetrating the timber evenly.
Where there is a risk of smearing, it may be better to allow excess adhesive to dry before carefully removing it mechanically. The most suitable method will depend on the timber and intended finish.
Painting, Sanding and Staining
Once completely cured, the adhesive can be sanded, painted or stained. Sand the joint carefully to create an even surface, then remove all dust before applying the chosen finish.
Because dried adhesive can affect how timber absorbs stain, always remove visible residue and test the intended coating on a spare piece or inconspicuous area. Follow the coating manufacturer’s preparation and application instructions.
Important Limitations
Evo-Stik Wood Adhesive Exterior Wood Glue is not suitable for permanently immersed timber or joints continuously exposed to standing water. It should not be used for structural load-bearing work unless specifically approved for the application.
Avoid applying the adhesive to frozen, excessively wet or contaminated wood. Low temperatures slow curing and can prevent water-based adhesive from forming a satisfactory bond. Protect the bottle from frost during storage.
